Tex, the Frigatebird: Rescued, Healed, and Released

Tagged:

In one of our recent releases, we said goodbye to Tex, a Lesser Frigate Bird that was rescued by one of our partners and friend, Wake-Up Call Shelter.

Tex came in very weak with a fungal infection that we were able to take care of and get her back up to strength. Their diets are typically fish and squid but they are smart enough to catch them while they're escaping other predators or even by stealing from other sea birds!

Tex quickly grew on the team with her amazing character. She clearly knew she had to be careful of the humans, but when she realized we were trying to help she became receptive to care and was almost even playful about it.

Due to their short legs and wings made to soar for weeks on wind currents, they typically gain flight through leaps from roosts and cliffs as in this instance when we released her from a cliff to go home where she can live the rest of her life happily.

Special thanks to Don for the videos provided and we hope you enjoyed your visit to our beautiful islands. We'd also like to thank Wendy and the CDA Police for all your assistance in making this possible.
