Spectacled Caiman Rescued and Released from Cunupia

Tagged:

Check out our latest release video where our Rescue Manager relocated this "little" guy who managed to find his way into someone's yard in Cunupia.

Spectacled Caimans (Caiman crocodilus) eat fish, crabs, snails or even birds and small mammals when they can catch them. Large males can grow up to 8 feet long! They live mostly in our swamps and wetland areas but can also be found in rivers, canals and even some of our drainage systems!

In Trinidad, Spectacled Caiman's habitat can be disrupted during the rainy season where flood waters drive them to higher ground and typically into urban areas, sometimes they're washed by the fast moving waters, though, they can move from area to area in search of mates or food which can mean they end up passing through urban areas as well.

Please do not try to handle them on your own. A defensive caiman will defend itself (never forget Richard). Please give us a call if you see a caiman where you think it should not be, or if they pose a threat to you or your home at 341-9983, 748-7100 or 497-3373 so that we can safely relocate the animal.
