Happy New Year!
A Rainbow Boa was found inside of one family's chicken coup. They were able to secure the animal so that none of their livestock would be affected and called us for it's safe removal, far away from human interaction.
Rainbow Boa, Epicrates maurus (Family Boidae) The name of this snake comes from its iridescence when under light where a rainbow like sheen appears along its body. This snake can be found all over the nation, these snakes feed primarily on rats and tend to end up in residential areas often.
This snake is an essential part of the environment as it has benefits in keeping humans safe. Did you know a rainbow boa of this size can eat up to 200 rats in a year!
