Gulf of Paria Oil Spill: Working Through the Night to Save Oiled Birds
We continue on into the night as birds continue to come in. This tragedy needs to stop. Why is no one ever held responsible for these atrocities?
If people like us, our volunteers and the countless others who care hadn't been out there to give these birds a fighting chance they would have likely been dead by morning. It takes anywhere from an hour to two hours to clean each bird properly. It's back breaking work and the intensity could never be put into words.
As we continue to clean, treat and feed these amazing animals we ask for your help. Typically during the cleanup of oiled animals we use: - Baby oil (large quantities) - Dawn (large quantities) - Hand towel rolls - Normal Q tips - Large Q tips - For maintaining the area we use degreasers to clean up after so anything that can help with that. - Old large towels (clean) are also needed so if anyone has some to part with please let us know. - Plastic folding tables and a large deep washing sink
Other than that, if anyone donates money, it goes towards medical supplies and fish which we go through very very quickly. We are also purchasing and borrowing more carriers and foldable kennels to expand our capacity. If you'd like to assist with these please let us know.
