Baby Kiskadee Rescued from the Road: When to Leave Fledglings Alone

Tagged:

Most of our patients aren't the animals people tend to see during their every day lives, but some are. This baby kiskadee was rescued from the middle of a roadway and brought to us to be cared for.

In most cases, we urge the public to leave fledgling birds alone, or at the most just put them back in their nests or off the ground and away from most predators. The parents are close by and watching, they will do all that's necessary and even feed the fledgling. Moving the baby away could potentially separate the baby from its parents and leave it without protection or food.

In this case the little guy had some visible bruises when he was found in the street and it was suspected may have been struck by a vehicle. Unless absolutely necessary please do not pick up fledglings, it's part of nature's process, they have to leave the nest some day!
